A few items to make that transition from summer into fall weather a little less painful! I’m loving all the belt bags, square-toe shoes, and animal print I’m seeing everywhere this season. Layers and texture are key to staying warm and looking polished in crisp temperatures. I selected a variety of versatile pieces that will carry from season to season, plus a few trends to add into the mix this year. You know, quality over quantity! What are some of your favorite fall pieces and trends this year?

I’m generally not big into trends, but I’m loving the sleeveless knit turtlenecks and backpack bags I’m seeing everywhere this fall. These are both great staples, and will transition well into winter and even spring (if you live in Chicago, all these seasons generally feel the same). I decided on a classic pointy flat and simple accessories.

Neutrals and all-black looks are far from boring. They’re versatile, chic and elegant. And they are often easy to style in different ways. Here I wear an oversized/asymmetrical turtleneck with jeans and zip-up booties. A grey and tan coat adds just the right amount of contrast and texture.

Overalls and knitwear combined are both comfortable and easy for winter weather dressing. I kept this look relaxed with a backpack, flat booties and a big scarf.

Cold temperatures require layers, boots, heavy knitwear and scarves. I’ve put together a few of my favorite pieces that will keep you warm and looking chic in the office or at the Thanksgiving table! I’m really excited about this large knit scarf from DeNada. It’s the perfect accessory to add both texture and extra warmth to any look. All of DeNada’s knitwear is handmade with an alpaca blend to ensure a soft and luxurious wear. The current collection includes gloves, hats, shawls and scarves for both women and men. And just in time for the holidays you can receive 25% off your purchase when using taffetacedar14 at checkout.

Oversized sweaters and other pieces of heavy knitwear are my plan for this winter. I love this hooded bouclé knit vest I found at Zara the other day. The bouclé yarn adds a lot of texture and feels extra luxurious. Since it’s a warm neutral, I decided to keep it simple and go with an all-black look and tall boots.

The weather in Chicago has been mild and tolerable these past few weeks. It’s supposed to be 70 today! Yay! But we all know it’s going to be legit sweater weather soon. Until then, you can find me outside running around while it’s warm.
sweater: Zara // top: Old Navy // jeans: Armani Exchange // sneakers: Vince // bag: Marc by Marc Jacobs
I think this oversized cardigan is quickly turning into my go-to sweater for fall. It’s warm, an ideal neutral color and easy to layer. With the weather turning chilly and extra rainy these past few weeks, my wardrobe has transitioned into heavier knits, booties, and coats. Time to pack away those sandals until next June…
