We had some really cold temps this past weekend in Chicago. Cold enough to get out my puffer coat and warmer layers. For this look, I kept it classic with dark colors and elevated basics. You can never go wrong with cozy turtlenecks, boots, and extra-warm layers when you live in the Midwest!

If you haven’t noticed, black is my favorite color to wear. It’s classic, effortless and chic. I enjoy seeing color, just not wearing it. I picked up this frayed blazer a few weeks ago to add to my collection of black jackets and blazers…becasue they all look completely different. Seriously, they do! I feel like this will be a fall favorite and I can’t wait to layer it over some heavier knitwear.

I love having short hair, it’s been variations of short for over 10 years. I tried growing it out this past winter and it was torture  uncomfortable. Though in the warmer months I like having it out of my face, especially when it’s humid or while I’m at the beach. Since I’m not a fan of bobby pins and clips, my solution is a large scarf. Yes, it’s that simple and pretty chic, too!

I’m all about pairing sneakers with elevated basics for a casual look. I love clean lines and classic pieces that are versatile and can be dressed up or down. Back skinny jeans and a white tee are wardrobe essentials. I added an oversized scarf for texture, black sneakers with crisp white laces and my go-to backpack. Easy and chic styling for spring.

shirt: c/o Oh My Julian // shades: Marc by Marc Jacobs // sandals: Old Navy // lip: Fiona Stiles – Matte Lip Crayon in 22nd

Spring and Summer styles are popping up everywhere and I couldn’t be more excited about it! My husband and I have escaped Chicago’s cold weather to soak up the sun in Tulum, Mexico. This Arctic Ice Open Back Tank from Oh My Julian is perfect for a beach vacation! It’s a delicate crocheted knit with a sheer open back. I paired white denim and black accessories together for a chic and minimal look. All Taffeta and Cedar readers can receive 15% off your purchase with code TF15 at closetbarcode.com. It felt like spring this past weekend in Chicago! I’m pretty sure the entire city was out and about enjoying the sunshine and temps in the 60’s! So I took this opportunity to shed some layers and play with some spring styling. I love the cut and length of this button down. It feels fresh and has great movement with the extra long back. As aways, keeping it classic and minimal.

Snow boots are a wardrobe must if you live in Chicago. The salt, snow and slush will ruin those gorgeous designer boots, so don’t risk it! I recently added these suede booties with faux shearing lining from TOMS to my winter routine. They’re warm and great for light snow days in the city, and stylish enough to wear around the office.

Who doesn’t love a great bag? I choose quality over quantity for the majority of my wardrobe, especially when it comes to an investment bag. I’ve recently come to love Bag Borrow or Steal, an online platform to borrow and share designer bags. It’s such a great way to experience different styles, designers and refresh your accessories. All you have to do is create an account (promotion for new users) and you’re a few clicks away from designer bags shipped to your door! Enjoy!

cashmere sweater: Uniqlo // scarf: True Religion // shades: Marc by Marc Jacobs // leggings: True Religion // boots: Prada

I picked up these coated denim leggings and scarf last week when I attended the Michigan Ave. True Religion event. Their fall/winter collection has so many great pieces, but I just loved the fit of these ‘Runway Leggings’. Not only do they fit like a glove, but they’re comfortable and they look like leather. So, I decided on a neutral v-neck cashmere sweater and classic black booties to keep my look feeling polished, but with a bit of edge.

I love the clean A-line shape and high collar of this coat that I picked up last week at the Uniqlo pre-opening event. It’s the perfect addition to my fall wardrobe and it’s a soft blend of cashmere and wool. As much as I dislike colder weather, I do enjoy the heavier textures, colors and accessories that go along with it.
